Buying Rebar in Mississauga & Brampton: A Contractor's Sourcing Guide

2AZ Group

Knowing your rebar sizes is one thing. Actually getting the right steel to your Mississauga or Brampton site, on the right day, cut the way you need it — that’s where pours get held up. This is the sourcing side of rebar: what to have ready before you call, what a good supplier should stock, and how to order so the steel shows up ready to tie.

If you need the size and spacing details first, our Ontario rebar sizing guide has the full 10M / 15M / 20M chart. This guide assumes you already know your sizes and just need to buy smart.

What a GTA rebar supplier should keep in stock

For most residential and light-commercial work in the GTA, you should be able to get these off the shelf without waiting on a mill order:

  • 10M (11.3 mm): Slab-on-grade, temperature steel, light structural
  • 15M (16 mm): Foundation walls, footings, structural slabs — the everyday size on GTA residential sites
  • 20M (19.5 mm): Heavy structural — commercial foundations, grade beams, garages
  • Epoxy-coated in the common sizes for anything exposed to de-icing salt or water — parking decks, balconies, exterior slabs

We carry black and epoxy-coated 10M, 15M and 20M at both the Mississauga and Brampton yards. Larger bars (25M and up) and special grades are usually a short order — call ahead and we’ll tell you the lead time.

Standard lengths and cut-to-length

Rebar ships in standard mill lengths of 6 m (about 20 ft). That’s fine for long walls and footings, but it’s a problem on tight sites, in a cube van, or when you’re reinforcing something small.

Two ways to make it fit your job:

  • Cut to length: Tell us the lengths you need and we’ll cut so it loads clean and there’s less to chop in the field.
  • Stock lengths and field-cut: Cheaper per bar, but you’re paying your crew to cut and you’ll have offcuts. Worth it only when your lengths are odd or still changing.

If you’re ordering by weight, remember the chart: 10M is 0.785 kg/m, 15M is 1.570 kg/m, 20M is 2.355 kg/m. That’s how you turn linear metres into tonnes for pricing.

Cut and bend — let the steel arrive ready to tie

Field bending eats labour and never comes out as clean as shop work. If your drawings call for stirrups, hooks, L-bars or dowels, send us the bar list or bending schedule off your engineer’s drawings and we’ll cut and bend to spec.

What that saves you:

  • No bender or cut-off saw tying up a worker on site
  • Consistent bends and hook lengths that pass inspection
  • Bundles tagged by mark number so your crew grabs the right bars

To quote cut and bend we need the bar marks, sizes, lengths, bend shapes and quantities. A clear bar schedule or a marked-up drawing is enough to start. Call for current pricing — it depends on the size mix and how much bending is involved.

How to estimate how much you need

You don’t need software for a clean take-off. Off the engineer’s drawing:

  1. Pull the bar size and spacing for each element (wall, footing, slab) and each direction.
  2. Work out the linear metres in each direction — slab length divided by spacing gives the number of bars, times the run length.
  3. Add lap splice length wherever bars overlap. Standard lap for 15M is about 600 mm (roughly 40 bar diameters) — don’t skip this, it’s a real quantity.
  4. Add 5–10% for waste, cut-offs and the odd damaged bar.
  5. Convert to pieces or weight using the standard length and the kg/m figures above.

Send us the drawing with your numbers and we’ll sanity-check the take-off before you commit — it’s easier to fix a count on paper than to send a truck back.

Ordering: pickup vs delivery

  • Yard pickup in Mississauga or Brampton works when you’ve got the truck and the bars are short enough to load. Call ahead so it’s pulled and waiting.
  • Delivery is the move for full lengths, big quantities, or when your crew should be tying steel, not driving. In-stock sizes are usually same or next-day across the GTA for a flat $125 delivery.

Either way, the more notice the better. Get your list to us early in the day and same-day is far more likely.

What to have ready before you call

Make the call quick and the order right:

  • Sizes and quantities (or the bar schedule if you want cut and bend)
  • Black or epoxy-coated
  • Lengths — standard 6 m or cut-to-length
  • Site address and the day you need it
  • A contact who’s on site to receive it

Got that in hand? Call 647-926-2597 and we’ll get your rebar sorted — stocked sizes, cut and bend to your drawings, and same or next-day delivery across Mississauga, Brampton and the GTA.
